Spaghetti Towers

Students designed a tower using only spaghetti sticks, 1m tape and 1m string. The tower needed to support the weight of one marshmallow. The tallest tower that could withstand the mass was declared the winner.... Here are all the groups in the planning stage.

Yesterday, students were challenged to stack cups without using their hands. They could only use string and one elastic band. After testing and redesigning, we raced to see who could complete the task the fastest. Watch and enjoy!

Impromptu Jump Rope Session

To cap off our Education Week, the entire school met in the primary yard to jump rope to music. As you can see, we had a great time.

Grandparents/Family Members Visit

Thanks to all The grandparents and family members who visited our classroom today. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to take a photograph of all visitors. We had a great time sharing technology and learning who is smarter than a sixth-grader via kahoot!

Musical Theatre: Pinball Wizard

Our class was amazing. 6B students closed the show in exuberant fashion! Pardon the over-zealous teacher handling the video....It's a little shaky.

A few notes and reminders

We are heading into a busy time (as if there is ever a quiet time) with Education Week coming up and the end of the year imminent. So, here are a few reminders:

1. Photo proofs need to be returned whether or not you are ordering.
2. Photo retakes are Tuesday, April 26.
3. Our Musical Theatre performance is May 4 at 9:30 (Dress Rehearsal) and May 5 at 1:30. All parents and family are welcome to either. Students should dress like teens in the 70's or rock stars.
4. Junior Track Day will be scheduled due to a conflict in scheduling. A new date is pending. The school board Track Meet is June 20 (rain date June 22).
5. EQAO begins May 25 and will mostly like run 6 mornings consecutively.
6. The Farewell Ceremony is still Tuesday, June 28 at 9:30. Students will have lunch at Boston Pizza and go bowling for the afternoon. They also receive their report card that day.

Congratulations Rose and Finn!

Congratulations to Rose and Finn who have been collaborating with their PGL peers to research space phenomena and attributes and learn about science experiments, in order to design an experiment for space. They have successfully competed against students 11-18 years of age, from all continents, and justified in their proposals, why "Cubes in Space" should spend their funds on sending these experiments into flight.

Engineer Challenge

On Wednesday, March 30, students were given a challenge: build a fire tower to support a "firefighter and hose" using the least amount of pieces and meeting certain criteria. As students built, additional challenges were added. A video will soon follow. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures...

World Water Day

March 22 is World Water Day. It is important to understand how lucky we are in North America to have access to clean tap water.

Today, students will view a video to learn about the bottled water industry. Tomorrow, we will conduct our own taste test on the quality of tap vs bottled water. Please see the video below...
